Chopstick Making Workshop

Ok, we know you’re good at using your chopsticks, but how about making your own pair? We are super excited to announce that our chopstick making event is back this year! (it was unfortunately cancelled last year due to Coronavirus) 

Try your hand at our JET Alumni Exclusive Chopsticks Making Workshop under the careful guidance of Hiroshi Yamaguchi , founder and traditionally-trained woodworker at the renowned @koitoya.design.make.teach designs here in Canberra. 

Learn from a leading industry expert and walk away with your own set of handmade traditional Japanese chopsticks. 

Tickets are $15 – a special discounted rate. 
Please note this event is open to JET Alumni only – details of placement will be requested during the registration process.

3. Come to Debacle (24 Lonsdale Street, Braddon) at 5.30pm on Saturday 28 May.
4. Eat your burger and get your (general admission) ticket for the game.
5. Get on the free shuttle bus from Debacle to GIO Stadium at 6.40pm
6. Enjoy the game (it actually starts at 7.40pm)
7. Get on the free shuttle bus from GIO Stadium back to Debacle

We have a booking for a table at Debacle before the game, so please do let us know that you’re definitely coming so that we can make sure we have enough space for everyone.

As of 1 September 2015, paid parking has been introduced to the parking areas on London Circuit. There is a maximum fee of $5 if you park there after 5pm.

Canberra Centre has a flat fee of $2 for parking if you enter after 6pm on weeknights.

There is FREE parking within the Australian National University after 5pm on weeknights.

It is also possible to find free parking on Torrens, Lonsdale and Mort streets in Braddon.

October Bounenkai / Oshaberikai, Thu 3 December

December Oshaberikai becomes this year’s Bounenkai!

It’s a busy time of year so we’re combining our December Oshaberikai get together and our Bounenkai. We’ll be holding it at Dickson Dumpling house from 6.30pm on Thursday 3 December (not Wednesday). We hope you can come along and share a few drinks and dumplings with us to rein in the end of 2015.

Our November Oshaberikai and get together will be at King O’Malley’s, on Wednesday, 7 November from 6:30pm. We will also be running our 2016 JET Programme informal Q&A night for aspiring ALTs. Come along if you have any questions and pick the brains of people who have been there before.  It’s a great chance to get the low-down on people’s experiences with both the Programme and the application process.

Annual General Meeting, Sun, 2nd Aug

It is time again for our Annual General Meeting.  It’s been a great year with a lot of fun events but we are also wanting to hear about what works for members and what doesn’t.  Our AGM is the first part of that plan, so please come along and let us know your thoughts and suggestions of what you’d like to see more of.

Please note: All committee positions are open for nomination at theAGM.
If you would like to get more involved and nominate yourself to be part of the Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Treasurer) or the GeneralCommittee (Webmaster/Social Media Person, Social Coordinator), please send your nomination and a brief blurb about yourself and why you would be good for the position to our current Vice President/Secretary, Amanda Wanda at:vice.president@jetaacanberra.org .Nominations must be received no less than 7 days before the AGM, so that would be Saturday, 26th July 2015.

If you can’t make make it and would like to appoint someone as your proxy for voting purposes please send Amanda an email at the above VP email address, stating your name, whether you are a full member (ie, ex-JET) or associate member, the date of the AGM (2nd August 2015) and who you want to nominate as your proxy.

Hopefully we can wrap it up reasonably quickly and grab some food and drinks together afterwards.
