JETAA Canberra Committee Meeting

The next committee meeting will be on Sunday 22nd August at 12 noon. The meeting will be hosted by Amanda out in Burra, and lunch will be provided.

To RSVP and receive address and directions, email Amanda on tsewadnama@yahoo.com.au.

Main purpose of the meeting is to organise upcoming events, including the Candle Festival on 18 September

Nara Candle Festival Planning Continues

As mentioned above the planning for the annual Nara Candle Festival continues.

This year the festival will be held on the 18th of September and we’re hoping for better weather than last year! As per the previous newsletters this is Nara’s 1300th anniversary which means that we are going to need as many volunteers as possible so keep the date open on your calendars. We’re sharing bar space with Rotary again this year so all hands on deck!

News from Japan

A couple of missives from The Daily Yomiuri this week.

Bad News for Smokers in Japan

“The adult smoking rate is 23.9 percent, a decline of one percentage point from the previous year and a record low for the 15th consecutive year, according a survey by Japan Tobacco Inc.”

Nagasaki Marks A-bombing with Memorial service

“NAGASAKI–Nagasaki observed the 65th anniversary Monday of the city’s atomic bombing by the United States with representatives from a record 32 countries attending, including those from the nuclear-armed nations Britain and France, but without a U.S. representative.”

Hope to see some of you at the committee meeting!
