Stars of the Tokyo stage, 19 Jul – 12 Oct

2014_July_National_Gallery_banner

Stars of the Tokyo stage is a window into the glamorous world of Japan’s kabuki theatre during the 1920s and 30s. The exhibition focuses on the arresting actor prints created by Tokyo artist Natori Shunsen (1886–1960) during a modern revival in Japanese theatre and printmaking.

Shunsen’s portraits reveal a deep engagement with kabuki. Made for fans, they depict leading actors as characters from kabuki’s repertoire of historical dramas, domestic plays, comedies, tragedies, crime thrillers and supernatural epics. The images capture the exaggerated expressions, flamboyant costumes, makeup and dramatic poses of the theatrical form.

Annual General Meeting, Fri, 18 July

Empty Conference Room

It is time again for our Annual General Meeting.  It’s been a great year of rebuilding so far and we have some cool plans for next year, but we are also wanting to hear about what works for members and what doesn’t.  Our AGM is the first part of that plan, so please come along and let us know your thoughts and suggestions or critiques.

If you would like to get more involved and nominate yourself to be part of the Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Treasurer) or the General Committee (Webmaster/Social Media Person, Social Coordinator), please send your nomination and a brief blurb about yourself and why you would be good for the position to our current Vice President/Secretary, Adam Gastineau at: vice.president@jetaacanberra.org .

If you can’t make make it and would like to appoint someone as your proxy for voting purposes please send Adam an email at the above VP email address, stating your name, whether you are a full member (ie, ex-JET) or associate member, the date of the AGM (18 July 2014) and who you want to nominate as your proxy. Clicking on this link will create a pro forma email that has all the necessary details.

One of the things we will be voting on are proposed changes to our Charter. The proposed changes mainly relate to tightening up wording relating to membership and the Executive Committee, and also  changing face of JETAA and what me might consider our role to be in the Japan and Canberra community.

A copy of the Charter with proposed changes can be found on our website here:

http://www.jetaacanberra.org/_pdf/JETAA_Charter_revision_20140520.pdf

Please note: these are just suggestions at this point, put together by several members and we would appreciate any feedback you might have, either at the AGM or by email before the AGM if you can’t make it.

Hopefully we can wrap it up reasonably quickly and grab some food and drinks together afterwards!

Event JETAA 2014 Annual General Meeting
Date Friday, 18 July 2014
Where Civic Library, Mezzanine Level meeting room
Time 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Proxies Send your proxy votes to vice.president@jetaacanberra.org no later than 6:00pm, Thursday, 10 April, 2014.

We look forward to see you at the meeting.

World Cup 2014 – Japan v Greece, Fri, 20 June

Japan_2014)World_Cup

Hoyts Belconnen are showing the Japan v Greece game on the big screen. The really big screen. The X-streme screen.

Given it’s a Friday morning, could be a tough call and this isn’t a “JETAA” event as such. It’s a “Book the tickets yourself” deal, but hopefully a few people can turn up.

Tix are $10 + bf or there is a $22 deal with a bacon and egg and OJ deal. Not sure if that is a deal or not.
