Candle Festival Liaison Officer still needed

JETAA seeks an enthusiastic member to lead the organisation of this years Canberra Nara Candle Festival on 26 September. The role is not exhaustive due to the great team of volunteers (who will sign up in due course) but it requires you to do a number of things such as (or to delegate):

  • attend the pre-event meetings which are held once a month from 5pm in Canberra Nara House in the City
  • arrange the ordering of food, drink and equipment supplies
  • prepare pre-event paperwork such as registration and liquor licence
  • enlist the volunteers and write the roster for the day
  • act as the contact person for the organisers (the ACT Chief Minister’s Department).

If you would like further information on what is involved, please do not hesitate to contact Murray at murray.woodford@immi.gov.au

The Candle Festival will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2009.

Japanese Film Noir

Much too much Japanese film just gets us over the line. The Ark Cinema at the National Film and Sound Archive will be screening Japanese Film Noir series from 16 July to 13 August.

All tickets will be $10 fill / $8 concession / $70 for a 10-ticket pass.

Arc Cinema.

National Film and Sound Archive

McCoy Circuit, Acton

For more information, please see:

Sports fans will be glad to know that this coincides with the Second to Fourth tests of the Ashes. Why not catch some Japanese Noir and then settle back with our chums at SBS to watch the greatest sporting contest of all?

O-Shaberikai

The next O-Shaberikai will be held on Wednesday, 5 August 2009 at the Holy Grail in Civic from 5.30pm onwards. Please do come along if you can.

For those who don’t know, the O-Shaberikai is a very informal monthly get-together where Japanese people staying in Canberra can meet Australians who have some interest in Japan. As it is informal, you’re not bound by time constraints so turning up late or leaving early is not a problem at all.

JETAA Trivia – date confirmed

The fourth annual JETAA Australia-Japan Trivia night will be held on Monday, 14 September 2009 – please mark this date in your diaries.
